Indian Fry Bread

3 c All-purpose Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
3 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 c Milk
1/4 – 1/2 c Water (as needed)
Vegetable Shortening for frying

Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir with a fork as you pour in the milk and stir, add just enough water to get it to come together. Cover the bowl with a dish towel and let it sit for 35 to 45 minutes to rest.

When you’re ready to make the fry bread, heat about 1 to 2 inches shortening in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Divide out one small piece of dough and press it into a circle with your fingers, stretching dough as you go.

Carefully place it into the oil. Fry on one side till golden brown, carefully flip it to the other side using tongs. Fry till golden brown.

Drain fry bread on paper towels. Serve with you favorite toppings, powdered sugar, butter and honey or make into Navajo Tacos
